I would suspect that UAD would have other Harrison emus on the horizon, but the $80 introductory price of MixBus might make it worth a peek for some sooner than later- dunno. On the topic of plugin-only, those with a UAD card can get the Harrison 32c for $249 (sans rotating discounts). I'm still reading their fix logs and am snooping around for contextual menu support among other features.
While MixBus has covered a lot of basics like compatibility with a diversity of audio formats and some essential functionality like time stretching, unlimited undo, non-destructive editing, real time fades, ADC, external sync, side-chaining, unlimited tracks, etc., there will always be the major concern for its stability and reliability where OSX is concerned or other GUI gotchas. For example, some use "Live" and DP for their own reasons- or instead of doing mastering and CD burning in DP they've adopted other apps for these purposes. Maybe if MixBus were itself self-contained 64-bit (I've yet to find anything that says that specifically, even though they offer a link to the 64-bit version of JackOSX) it might be something to consider if DP were not an option.īut because MixBus appears to be more or less the equivalent of DP's Sequence Editor and Mixer, it would have to serve a very specific purpose akin to how people have found other workstations useful. I saw nothing about Virtual Instruments as of yet, but see no real reason why I'd personally need to use it *in conjunction with* DP for all the trouble. But the mixer appears to be nicely laid out with some attractive and intuitive readouts. If you don't like the sound, then all bets are off. Sound (I'm not), then arguably it could make things worse for you. But currently, atīest, it just adds extra steps to your production process, with no
Frankly, if it ran as a plug-in it might be cool.
